5.45PM: As the rain starts bucketing down many bedraggled folk are heading away early from the Get It On Big Gay Out. A little while ago they heard representatives from the Green party pledge their commitment to glbti issues. "We have been supporting the gay community and will continue to do so," said party co-leader Meteria Turei who got a laugh when she introduced gay Green MP Kevin Hague as "Big Gay Kev." "We're not just here for your hospitality," Turei said," we'll take your voice back to parliament. Meanwhile, the news of pop music diva and drag performance uber-icon Whitney Houston's death in Los Angeles has reverberated around the BGO (see GayNZ.com International News). There was an audible gasp from the crowd in front of the main stage as the news was announced. Marc, a young gay man in his late 20s told GayNZ.com the first drag show he ever saw was to a Whitney song and he describes himself as being in "utter shock." GayNZ.com Daily News is filing regular live reports throughout the afternoon from the Big Gay Out. Photos from the park will begin to be progressively posted on this site from early this evening. You can discuss this New Zealand gay community news story in the GayNZ.com Forum.
