Starbucks says it appreciates difference

Fri 10 Feb 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News

Starbucks has made it quite clear it respects diversity, following a New Zealand anti-abortion group’s bizarre call for a boycott because the coffee giant “supports sodomy”. “As a Washington state based company, Starbucks has joined other local employers in Washington in support of state legislation recognising marriage equality,” a statement from Starbucks in New Zealand says. “At Starbucks we have a diverse global workforce and customer base and we appreciate the many differences in our partners and our customers. We respect diverse views and beliefs on a wide range of topics, and our primary focus remains to deliver the best customer experience possible.” The assertion comes after a statement from anti-abortion group Right to Life calling for its friends to boycott Starbucks because it is "officially supporting sodomy and gay marriage". It is upset the company’s head office offered support for gay marriage legislation in Washington state, but has never supported events celebrating heterosexual marriage. It’s far from the first time Right to Life has gone off track from abortion. As it’s looked at wider social issues it’s also spoken out over McDonald’s block of certain glbt and sexual health websites with its free WiFi and its website is dotted with anti-gay sentiment.
