A ruling is expected to be made on Wednesday morning New Zealand time, on the constitutionality of Proposition 8, a ballot measure which banned same-sex marriage in California. Regardless of how a three-judge panel of the US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decides the case, its ruling is very likely to be appealed to the US Supreme Court, which could decide next year whether gays and lesbians across the US have the right to marry, the LA Time reports. In August 2010, former Chief US District Judge Vaughn Walker ruled that Proposition 8 violated the federal constitution. ProtectMarriage, the sponsors of Proposition 8, appealed his ruling to the 9th Circuit.
