One of the members of The Yandall Sisters, a group with mainstream success which often performed in gay venues, has been farewelled in Auckland. Mary Yandall died earlier this week, aged 62. She and her sisters Adele and Pauline made up all-female Samoan-New Zealand singing group The Yandall Sisters, who emerged in the 70s and were at their height with their hit Sweet Inspiration in 1974. They performed at former Auckland gay bar Staircase and were well-known and loved by the Auckland gay community of the 1970s and '80s. Mary Yandall was farewelled at the Pacific Island Presbyterian Church at Newton this morning, before being buried at Waikumete Cemetery.
