GenderBridge seeks helpline volunteers

Wed 25 Jan 2012 In: New Zealand Daily News

GenderBridge is looking for volunteer phone counsellors who are willing to go through training so they can answer calls to its helpline. The Auckland trans support and advocacy group operates a helpline, 0800 TG HELP, which is staffed by GenderBridge volunteers who have undergone OUTLineNZ's phone counsellor training. It receives hundreds of calls each year from transgender and questioning people and their supporters. "We are currently looking for volunteers to take part in a transgender OUTLine training in Auckland," says the group's Chair Jaime Veale. "Those who have completed the training can answer calls on the GenderBridge helpline and on OUTLine's helpline. The foundation self-development self-knowledge training is set for two Sundays in late February. This will be followed by some phone skills sessions on some weeknights. However, there may be some flexibility with the dates." If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Jaimie Veale by February 3, 2012 by email: chair@genderbridge.org
