A teenage British tennis player may have lost her match at the Australian Open, but she has likely won plenty of glbt fans after sporting a rainbow hairtie while playing at an arena named after tennis great turned anti-equality pastor Margaret Court. Laura Robson, 17, wore the hairtie despite being unaware of a Facebook campaign calling for rainbow colours to be shown at the arena. She said she had simply heard of Court's comments against gay marriage and was in favour of equal rights. "I didn't see anything about a protest. I wore it because I believe in equal rights for everyone. That's it," Robson told media after her to Jelena Jankovic. "It's not a protest, it's just a hairband." Court is fiercely against gay marriage and has stated "Politically correct education has masterfully escorted homosexuality out from behind closed doors, into the community openly and now is aggressively demanding marriage rights that are not theirs to take." She also believes people choose their sexuality, stating "The fact that the homosexual cry is, 'We can't help it, as we were born this way,' as the cause behind their own personal choice is cause for concern."
