Actors slam anti-gay Globes protestors

Christopher Plummer While plenty of gay actors gathered inside and glbt-friendly shows picked up awards, the notoriously hatefully homophobic Westboro Baptist Church protested outside yesterday's Golden Globes ceremony. After Canadian actor Christopher Plummer won best supporting actor for his role as a gay man coming out in his seventies in the film Beginners, he told media backstage, "Gay characters are human beings. We are all exactly the same, and the reason I played it the way I did was because you don't go around pretending to mince and to be a caricature of a gay. Gays are part of our society and have been since the Egyptians, the Greeks; it is part of the human condition. I know there's an awful lot of anti-gay feeling right now, particularly at this moment, and I abhor it." Modern Family actor Eric Stonestreet, whose show won for the best comedy or musical TV series, also took the opportunity to denounce the protesters. "America is a great place, speech is free and you're able to expose the fact that you're an idiot," he said. Jodie Foster with her sons Charlie and Kit Among the out actors at the ceremony were Jodie Foster, who took her two sons along and laughed off host Ricky Gervais' beaver jokes. Also in the audience were Jane Lynch from Glee and The L Word, plus bi actress Evan Rachel Wood. Elton John was also in the audience as he was nominated for a song he wrote for Gnomeo
