Dunedin queer duo MY,OH are playing Proud Mary in Auckland tonight. Member Carmen Norgate tells us what they're all about! For anyone who hasn't seen MY,OH perform, what can they expect? We're here, we're queer, we're taking off our underwear. We are all about having a good time. If the audience isn't dancing, WE WILL MAKE THEM DANCE. Like as in, get off the stage and remove their chairs, type thing. We like to be pretty vulnerable. Removing most of our clothes enables us to do so. How did MY,OH get started? MY,OH. started as a threesome in Mark's bedroom.... lolz.... Nah, just a three-piece. We made three songs. Only one of which we play now. We were not yet a queer band yet as one of us was not queer (wtf?). When our redhead left, we started making really sexually expressive songs (mostly of the queer nature) and that is where MY,OH. is today. Tell me a bit about the members? MY,OH. is part Asian, part Caucasian. They are BFFs. Mark is a cute little bear. Makes phat beats. Looks good in hot pants. He is quite sunburnt right now. He loves beards. Carmen is Asian. Also loves beards. It's hard to write about yourself.... Does most of the singing/rapping but is encouraging Mark to do more. Do you spend much time on the Dunedin queer scene? If so, what's it like? Mmmm we don't really. I feel like it's a bit dominated by men/boyz. I wish there was a queer bar. There used to be but I don't know what happened to it. What music are you listening to right now? Missy Elliot is quite high on my list right now. We live together so we often find music together. We like to go onto soundcloud.com and find remixes or just find weird electro music. Industrial goth is really hot. My favourite song forevs is Satisfaction - The one that goes "push me and then just touch me... blah", not the rock song.... Check us out on facebook! MYOHMYGOD is what you need to look up. We will be bringing some CDs and merch to Proud Mary so buy some please. Proud Mary is at 4:20 on Auckland's K' Rd tonight, entry is $10 in the door.
