Woman sentenced over lesbian/STD yarns

Tue 29 Nov 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News

A Queenstown woman who claimed her daughter's rival was a lesbian and had an STD has been sentenced at Queenstown District Court. Fairfax reports the 53-year-old cleaner has been sentenced to 300 hours community work, ordered to pay $500 emotional harm reparation and was given two years' intensive supervision including undertaking mental health programmes and counselling. The woman posed as a nurse, called two potential schools and made up lies about another teenager who had applied to attend. She said she was a sexual health worker and her daughter's rival had a sexually transmitted disease and was in a lesbian relationship. The woman has been given permanent name suppression to protect her daughter.
