Sat 26 Nov 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News

Kevin Hague and Jan Logie 8.10PM: With just a few percent of polling places counted since voting closed an hour ago the Greens are sitting at almost 10%, in line with pre-election day expectations. This will, if the trend continues through the night, see the party with two gay MPs in the house - Kevin Hague and Jan Logie In the referendum on the electoral system a majority of voters so far are saying they want to stick with the current MMP system which is considered to have benefitted glbti interests in recent years. Early indications are that NZ First, whose leader Winston Peters has long held strongly anti-gay views, will have a handful of MPs. However, with currently just over 8% of votes counted nationally, National could possibly govern alone without having to court either the gay-friendly Greens or Peters.
