Out candidates ready for results to roll in

After joining the rest of the nation in casting their votes, gay and lesbian candidates across the country will be following tonight's results in a variety of venues. Kevin Hague will be spending the night at a Green Party function at Alleluyah in St Kevin's Arcade on Auckland's Karangahape Rd, while lesbian candidate Jan Logie will be hosting an election night party at her Kapiti Coast home and says all are welcome. Bisexual Green candidate Rachael Goldsmith will be at a gathering at her campaign manager's house in Otatara, just outside Invercargill. UnitedFuture's gay candidate Damian Light will have a quiet night in on the North Shore, ahead of a friend's wedding tomorrow. Many of Labour's Wellington candidates, including Grant Robertson and Jordan Carter, will be at a region-wide party in the city, while Charles Chauvel will be with his supporters at the Johnsonville Club. Alliance's Wellington Central candidate Kelly Buchanan, who describes herself as at "the lesbian end of bi" will spend the evening with a group of friends. Maryan Street will be with her campaign team in at her Nelson headquarters. In Dunedin out ACT candidate Guy McCallum will joining ACT members with National friends and colleagues to watch the results come in. "As usual with election night, my eyes will be glued to the nearest screen with an emptying glass of red in one hand," he says. Polls across the country close at 7PM.
