Drag diva RuPaul will be a special international guest at the 2012 Sydney Mardi Gras, which is rebranding with a new logo that's all about the love, and doing away with the 'gay and lesbian' prefix. The US superstar will be joined by a British cabaret act called the Dame Edna Experience and the Australian dance group Sneaky Sound System at next year's parade after-party on 3 March. The Mardi Gras brand has also unveiled a new logo, an infinity sign formed into two hearts, which the team has explained to Samesame.com.au with: "Mardi Gras shows Sydney more love - but keeps its thumping gay heart." The team has also done away with the prefix ''gay and lesbian'' and renamed the event simply as Sydney Mardi Gras. ''I think that whilst we are first and foremost a GLBTQI community organisation, we also are very open to all of our friends that do not necessarily identify within that alphabet soup," chairman Peter Urmson stated at the launch.
