McCaw "out" headline lightens mood at Forum

Fri 14 Oct 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Last night's GABA Forum of political candidates and parties started with a roar of laughter when MC and chair for the evening, Johnny Givens, reflected on the demands of a changing world and changing language. Observing that the world was sometimes a complex and confusing place Givens suggested that glbt voters had to embrace the task of clarifying the issues for themselves and voting wisely. He then noted that even language was a changing thing, with words evolving different meanings for different cultures. To illustrate his point he held up a copy of the street poster promoting the day's edition of the NZ Herald newspaper. "As a gay man my heart skipped a beat!" he deadpanned to laughter and applause. The light moment settled both Forum panelists and the 80-strong audience which for the next three hours presented and debated issues of interest to lgbt people and those in business in the lead-up to the general election. And as a special treat for gay rugby fans GayNZ.com's photographer Andrea has offered the accompanying 'action photos' of Ritchie McCaw as an "early Christmas present for my gay boy friends." GayNZ.com is right behind cute Captain Richie and the All Blacks this Sunday night... and for the final! You can discuss this New Zealand gay community news story in the GayNZ.com Forum.
