Denis Phillips murder trial begins at High Court

Denis Phillips was found dead in his home in July 2010 11.10: A jury of six men and six women has been sworn-in at the trial of a teenager accused of murdering non-sworn police officer Denis Norman Phillips. Seventeen-year-old Willie John Ahsee, who was 16 at the time of Phillips’ death, has entered a not guilty plea. Phillips was found dead in his Papakura home on 31 July, 2010. He had been stabbed to death. The 59-year-old was known in the Auckland gay community, and frequented a number of gay venues in the central city. The trial at the High Court in Auckland is set down for three weeks. GayNZ.com Daily News will report from the High Court throughout each day of the trial.
