UniQ Victoria to mark 25 years of HLR with ball

Thu 6 Oct 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

UniQ Victoria is promising to put on one of the most fabulous events this year when it celebrates 25 years of Homosexual Law Reform in New Zealand with a Silver Anniversary Ball that will incorporate jazz acts, burlesque and cocktails. "Many queer youth today realise that their lives would be very different if it were not for Homosexual Law Reform," says UniQ Victoria Co-President Genevieve Fowler. "This is our way of recognising how far we've come. The UniQ crew felt that a dress-up evening would be a wonderful way to celebrate both the passing of this law and the end of the 2011 university year in style." The celebration at Club Ivy on Friday 14 October will begin with Emma Wollum playing accordion, followed by jazz from Tim Hopkins and his trio. At midnight, Rick Rollah and Hans will perform, and a commemorative cake will be cut. There will also be 2-for-1 cocktails until 9PM, three tapas for $12, and some free nibbles provided throughout the night. Tickets are available for $10 online from cosmicticketing.co.nz, or from one of the Cosmic stores. There will be a limited amount of door sales for$15. "[UniQ has] endeavoured to keep the cost low so that the ball is accessible to everyone. We expect to see both students and non-students there for a great night,” Fowler says.
