A quick word with Zowie

Fri 16 Sep 2011 In: Music View at Wayback View at NDHA

New Zealand's very own pixie of electro-pop Zowie is gathering hype across the globe. She plays Auckland alternative women's night Proud Mary, on the back of taking part in a showcase run by Perez Hilton in Austin. We chat to a tiny woman who clearly has a huge future. You have really been making waves, how does it feel to have so much positive feedback to what you're creating? It's so surreal but I've worked really hard with Zowie and my bad-ass crew so it's cool to see it getting an amazing reaction and not just one specific group of people its so broad which is really really cool. Tell me about playing at Perez Hilton's Austin show? Did you meet him and if so what did you think? That show was insane, the loudest most fun crowd! Yes he was great we had a chat and he interviewed me - he's such a big music lover and was very positive about how he saw Zowie. He just posted my latest single actually its amazing how quickly the plays go up after he posts something. I think I was up to 30,000 plays only after a few hours of it being up. He's great. You obviously have at least one gay fan in Perez and you're happy to play a queer women's night - so I take it the gay world is something you are entirely cool with? Oh my god of course!! We played at this amazing Gay Bar in NYC called "Splash Bar" that was something else. All the boys in my band were getting their bums pinched by all the men in their undies haha. Maybe my bum will the one being pinched tonight - the guys would love that. What can people expect from your show on Friday night? A very lively and energetic show - fancy foot work! We are super excited. Zowie plays at Proud Mary at 4:20 on K' Rd in Auckland on Friday night, entry is $10. You don't want to miss this! Jacqui Stanford - 16th September 2011
