Outgames co-chair David Hindley There have been 48 applications for funding from the proceeds of the Wellington AsiaPacific Outgames, which has left the organising committee with a tough job, but confident the community is in strong heart. The total amount requested from the legacy fund is more than $180,000, which is over four times the funding actually available. The committee assessing grants is now working carefully though all the applications. "The committee has an extremely difficult job," says Outgames co-chair David Hindley. "Many of the grants are for very well developed projects that would be of great benefit to the community." While the vast majority of applications are from New Zealanders, some have also come from places as far away as Samoa, the Philippines and Nepal, from where people attended the Wellington Outgames in March this year. Decisions about grants will be made and announced before the end of September.
