Mon 15 Aug 2011 In: International News View at Wayback

Michelle Bachmann A conservative politician who has described being gay as "personal despair" has won an influential poll in the run-up to selection of the Republican candidate for president of the USA at the next general election. Michelle Bachmann was a convincing winner of a non-binding but indicative straw poll conducted by Iowa Republicans at the weekend. "If you’re involved in the gay and lesbian lifestyle, it’s bondage. It is personal bondage, personal despair and personal enslavement," she has said. She has also committed herself to reinstating a ban on openly homosexual people serving in  the US military. Bachmann's husband is a Christian counsellor who believes he can make gay people straight through prayer, education and therapy.
