Student seeks to capture Wellington pride

Sat 13 Aug 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News

A Massey University student is seeking out and proud Wellingtonians to be models for a photography exhibition. Honours student Stefanie Upchurch is determined to celebrate the queerness of the capital by photographing everyday people who are comfortable and proud about who they are. "I really want to capture a diverse range of lgbti people," she says. The photographs will become part of Upchurch's degree portfolio, be deposited with an archive and curated for an exhibition on the not-for-profit glbti media website PrideNZ.com. The site's administrator Gareth Watkins says it's really important that the diversity and energy of Wellington's queer culture is seen, "not just by us, but by the wider community. Seeing diverse, proud people just being themselves is a strong political statement." If you would like to get involved please email Stefanie Upchurch before Monday 29 August 2011 at out@pridenz.com
