A straight Chicago man has been rejected from giving blood because he 'appeared to be homosexual'. Aaron Pace, 22, has told the Chicago Sun Times he is 'effeminate' and straight and the exchange left him feeling humiliated and embarrassed. "It's not right that homeless people can give blood but homosexuals can't. And I'm not even a homosexual," he said. In the US, the 1983 Food and Drug Administration policy states that men who have had sex with another man since 1977 are not allowed to donate blood. The policy was introduced because of concerns that HIV was being spread by blood, but all donations are now tested for HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis and other infectious diseases before they are used.
