Trevor Kaukau fronted a Greenpeace protest over deep-sea oil drilling - Greenpeace A man who was found unconscious on gay Auckland hotspot Karangahape Rd is said to be on the mend. Trevor Kaukau suffered a fractured skull after being hit to ground in the early hours of 25 June. The 41-year-old is well-known and well-liked by many in the gay community who have expressed great concern for him after the attack. His sister, Rebecca Kaukau, has told the New Zealand Herald he is on the track to recovery. The family had been preparing for the worst after he stopped showing signs of progress when he was brought out of the coma. His recovery is reported to be in the early stages and doctors are still working on establishing the the extent of his brain damage. Twenty-year-old part-time storeman Langi Koloamatangi has been charged with assaulting Mr Kaukau and will reappear in the Auckland District Court this week.
