Pacific Voices video resource goes online

Sun 17 Jul 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A new resource addressing issues and lives of Pacific glbt people has gone online after being launched last Wednesday night. Around 150 people attended the launch at Auckland's downtown Academy Theatre, many were involved in the making of the Pacific Voices video or were friends and family. The 25 minute production is based on a recent fono of Pacific peoples and addresses many issues such as identity, sexual health, bullying and family estrangement. Directed by Ramon Te Wake, it offers hope through mutual support and self-determination. The fono and video resource are the culmination of months of work by Elton Siataga Raharaha, the NZ AIDS Foundation's Social Marketing Co-ordinator, Pacific. He says he hopes it will assist people from Pacific nations to understand their sexualities and that it will also stimulate discussion as far afield as possible.
