Woman admits stabbing ex's new partner

Sat 9 Jul 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A woman has reportedly admitted trying to kill a woman she found in bed with her female ex-partner, immediately after being released on bail by police. Hawke's Bay Today reports Shannon Tanya Pickering was remanded in custody for sentencing on September 1 after appearing in the High Court in Napier. She pleaded guilty to attempting to murder 33-year-old Taana Tipoki and two counts of committing damage with intent. The court was told that Tipoki and Pickering's ex-partner were asleep in a caravan in central Hastings in the early hours of October 15 when Pickering arrived and used a hockey stick to smash the windows in the caravan and a vehicle parked at the address. Pickering was arrested, but after she was released on bail later that morning she went home to her flat and found the women on a bed. She stabbed Tipoki in a fight, causing several knife wounds to her upper body.
