Thu 7 Jul 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Bea Arthur and Bette Armstrong Applications are open for the next round of funding grants for a Trust which celebrates the lives and love of a lesbian couple who were together for 57 years. The Armstrong and Arthur Charitable Trust for Lesbians was established in 2001 by the late Bea Arthur, named to recognise and remember her relationship with the late Bette Armstrong. The women were icons for many Wellington lesbians and their legacy continues through the Trust. The Trustees are now inviting applications for funding assistance, for projects and activities that will benefit all or part of the lesbian communities in the Wellington region – which is defined as the lower North Island, below the Manawatu Gorge. The Trust funds education, research and social development. It also assists individual lesbians and community groups or services that benefit the lesbian community, such as help-lines, library facilities, radio programmes, art exhibitions and theatre productions and other cultural activities intended to further community development. The Trust also gives grants for other services such as rehabilitation and heath activities. The next round of grants closes 31 July 2011. Application forms and guidelines for applications can be downloaded at: www.lesbiantrust.org.nz/apply.html or are available from: The Secretary, The Armstrong and Arthur Charitable Trust for Lesbians, P O Box 199, Waikanae. 5250.
