The grand old girl of Karangahape Rd will be farewelled by performances from some of the creme de la creme of Auckland's drag entertainers on Saturday night. Kamo is closing its doors for the final time ahead of a major renovation and rebranding. Events guru at the venue Tess Tickle says Cindy of Samoa will kickstart the night's events with some live singing from 10.30pm, while the Southside Sisters will perform a Beyonce routine at 11.30pm, followed by Kola Gin, Dallas Vixon and Deeza Star at 12.30am. In the final farewell piece Tess herself will take to the stage with Buckwheat and two boy dancers in an extravagant Egyptian number at 1.30am. "At the end of the night Cindy will probably do a little farewell song," Tess says. "And we also have our DJs on, James Leuii and Steven Oates, plus drink specials - it will be a chance to get rid of everything behind that bar," she laughs. "And really, really make it a big event, a big night. It's been a big long countdown for us but we're very excited." GayNZ.com Daily News will have details on what's next for the venue and it's grand opening party soon.
