Empire State Bldg celebrates in rainbow colours

Sun 26 Jun 2011 In: International News View at Wayback

Less than an hour after the same sex marriage bill was passed in New York State's Senate yesterday New York city's most iconic building was celebrating in the colours of the rainbow flag. It appears those responsible for the illumination of the art deco masterpiece Empire State Building had already scheduled the colours in connection with Gay Pride Week. The rainbow-coloured lights had been installed more than six months ago to mark a show by the band Furthur at Madison Square Garden last November. Furthur comprised members of the Greatful Dead whose frontman Jerry Garcia died in 1995. The Empire State Building had last been bathed in rainbow coloured light to mark Garcia's passing. Meanwhile, many of the state's gays and lesbians are already making plans to marry and the wedding planning industry is moving into overdrive.
