Gay Ski Week working with travel wholesaler

Sat 4 Jun 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

The growing demand for tickets to the gayest event in Queenstown has seen Gay Ski Week organisers team up with Australia's largest snow travel wholesaler. Value Tours will be bringing their expertise in the travel industry to the table and will be selling GSWNZ eight Night Ski Packages, accommodation, ski rental, lift passes, official event tickets and passes to the Pink Ski Bus to the mountains. Event organiser Mike Sanford it was essential to bring in a major wholesaler to cope with the demand. "The event has the potential to become massive, especially with 75 per cent of our guests coming from Australia, we need to bring in a specialised operator to manage the bookings and maximise the growth opportunities for the event in that market." In 2010 the eighth annual event attracted 900 people from around the globe and in 2011 the number attending will grow. The largest lgbt skiing and snowboarding club in the world, Ski Bums, has booked its first trip south of the equator. Value Tours general manager David Ovendale says he has watched the growth of Gay Ski Week NZ and was excited at the huge potential for them to work together. "We believe there are some good synergies between their event management expertise and our package building and distribution capabilities and that together we can drive this event to the level of what you see in the North American destinations," he says. Gay Ski Week NZ 2011 is to be held in Queenstown from July 23-31. For full event details visit www.gayskiweeknz.com
