An Auckland Council and glbti community liaison group is offering an open invitation for more people and organisations to come along to its meetings. The group is attended by queer members of local boards and council officers, along with representatives of a number of community groups. It's designed to ensure the rainbow community voice is not silenced and to look at ways to help the community in its dealings with the council, which is all the more important under the changing Auckland Council structure. At its first meeting for the year, the group expressed concern that there is no formal glbti place within Auckland Council, despite other minority groups being catered for. The liaison group is looking for ideas and input for things the Council can do for the community. Its next meeting is likely to be held in late July, with more information to be available on GayNZ.com once a date and time are set in stone.
