Stephen Fry British actor Stephen Fry has joined gay counterpart Sir Ian McKellen in the cast of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit films. Fry will play the Master of Laketown in the prequels to blockbusters The Lord of the Rings. "We are thrilled to confirm that Stephen Fry will be playing The Master of Laketown," Peter Jackson says. "I've known Stephen for several years, and we're developing a Dambusters movie together. In addition to his writing skills, he's a terrific actor and will create a very memorable Master for us." Fry is not only an actor but also a writer, journalist, presenter, comedian and general wit who became a YouTube hit when his TV crew had an encounter with a horny kakapo in 2009. Other actors starring in The Hobbit include Sir Ian Holm as the older Bilbo Baggins, Andy Serkis as Gollum and Orlando Bloom as Legolas. Elijah Wood is reprising his role as Frodo Baggins – it's believed he will appear at the beginning to set up the story, which pre-dated Frodo's birth. The films are set to be released in two parts in 2012 and 2013.
