Groups across the country are gearing up for the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, planning candlelight ceremonies, quiz nights, film nights and a t-shirt campaign. IDAHO is held on 17 May each year and community organisations across the globe are encouraged to hold an event to mark it. A brand new New Zealand based IDAHO website has been created and people are being urged to add their events, send in their pictures, and get involved in the campaign. One of the first initiatives to emerge is a competition on Facebook calling for people to make anti-homophobia/transphobia t-shirts and post them online. Among the events already planned are a Q-Youth candlelight ceremony, a Dunedin queer quiz night and an Auckland screening of Courage Unfolds.
