Urge warming up for winter with brain workout

Tue 10 May 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News

Calling all intellectual bears ... Urge is bringing back its quiz nights for winter to warm up the brains of its patrons. The men's bar on Auckland's K' Rd is holding the first of the monthly quizzes this Thursday 12 May and they will continue every second Thursday of the month throughout winter. Doors open at 9pm with prizes and bar tabs up for grabs. For those who like things a little retro, the first Thursday of each month will soon be ‘Abigail's Party', a celebration of the 70s with 'classy 1970s nibbles and cocktails and retro tunes from DJ Vitamin K'. The first of these nights is on June 2. “We already enjoy a boost to the bar after the Auckland Gay Film Nights, which take place on every third Thursday of the month, so we thought we would try a few more ideas during the winter months,” says Urge co-owner Alan Granville. The bar is also gearing up for Queen's Birthday weekend with a special party to send off Mr Australasia Bear contestants Arfa and Marc to Melbourne on June 4, while the infamous ‘Underware' Party returns on June 5. “The winter Undies parties are always fun as our patrons have to cuddle up that extra bit closer together,” Granville says.
