The new Mr Gay Wellington will be crowned at a Queen's Birthday Weekend pageant at Garden Club. The winner of the competition on Sunday 5 June will walk away with over $1,000 in prizes from the competition, which has been running since the days of Pound Nightclub in the 90s. “The night is shaping up to be one of the best, with a great mix of celeb and talent already on board. I am delighted with the level of interest we have already received,” says Garden Club owner and event promoter Greig Wilson in a Facebook event announcement. In a move which is sure to raise eyebrows, Jevan Goulter has been named on the judging panel, alongside queer capital stalwarts Aaron and Andy, plus ‘a surprise. The night will be MC'd by former Good Morning host Steve Gray and will be made up of swimwear, evening wear and a talent section. Previous winner Michael Gray recently moved to Australia and will not be on hand to pass the title on. “It is unfortunate not to have Michael there on the night in person, however I believe a satellite connection is being considered to uphold the tradition,” Wilson says. The event starts off as a pageant and rolls into a full-on party with DJ Wick Mix taking control. Doors open in the Garden Club @8pm. Door sales $12.
