Thu 21 Apr 2011 In: International News

Norma Hurtado and her mother were shot dead A Texas man allegedly killed his daughter's girlfriend and the girl's mother because he was angry that his daughter was in a lesbian relationship. The Austin American-Statesman reports Jose Alfonso Aviles, 45, has been charged with capital murder over the deaths of Norma Hurtado, 24, and Maria Hurtado, 57, who were shot in their Austin home. Aviles could face the death penalty if convicted. His 18-year-old daughter found her girlfriend and her girlfriend's mother on the floor where they died. Austin police say the relationship had caused a feud between the two families. The district attorney is yet to decide whether the murders would be classified as a hate crime.
