The book was turned into a major film in 1953 The 1951 novel From Here to Eternity is to be reissued digitally with its previously censored gay content restored. Descendants of author James Jones have come to an agreement with ebook supplier Open Road to re-release the book online from May 10. It will include original gay scenes and language that was considered "too vulgar" for original publisher Scriber. From Here To Eternity is about US soldiers serving in Hawaii in the months before Pearl Harbor and was turned into blockbuster multiple Oscar-winning film in 1953, starring Frank Sinatra, Deborah Kerr and Burt Lancaster. Jones' daughter Kaylie has told the New York Times her father, who served in Hawaii before the Second World War, objected to the content cuts, but eventually gave in. "My father fought bitterly to hold on to every four-letter word in the manuscript," she says. "The publisher was concerned about getting through the censors."
