A documentary featuring firsthand accounts of the bitter and momentous Stonewall riots will be screened at Out Takes 2011. Stonewall Uprising recalls a momentous day in glbt history, 28 June 1969, when New York City police raided Greenwich Village Mafia-run gay bar, The Stonewall Inn. For the first time, patrons refuse to be led into paddy wagons, setting off a three-day riot that launched the gay rights movement. The documentary is based on the experiences of Stonewall patrons, reporters and the police officer who led the raid. Reviewer Kevin Thomas from the Los Angeles Times says it "make(s) chillingly clear how oppressive and downright dangerous life was for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people at that time". Other films confirmed in the Out Takes line up are two with subtitles; French flick Gigola is about a lesbian gigilo in 1960s Paris, while Danish movie Brotherhood (Broderskab) tells the story of two men who meet and fall in love in a neo-Fascist sect.
