Wall likely to get early return to Parliament

Sun 3 Apr 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News View at NDHA

Louisa Wall Louisa Wall is likely to return to Parliament and take the spot vacated by Darren Hughes. Labour leader Phil Goff says the former Silver Fern and Black Fern will probably take over, after next on the list Judith Tizard defied predictions and decided not to take the spot. Former MP Mark Burton has also said no to a return to Parliament. Former MPs Mahara Okeroa, Martin Gallagher, Dave Hereora are also higher on the list than Wall, but Goff says he has a sense they have "moved on with their lives". He says each will be given the opportunity to make their own decision, but Wall is the most likely to return to parliament. "Louisa is a young and energetic person with a strong future in politics.” The openly-lesbian Wall was briefly in Parliament in 2008 when she replaced retiring list MP Anne Hartley. She is standing in the safe Manurewa seat at the November election.
