The bar known by regulars as the 'gay Cheers' of Karangahape Rd, Kamo, has changed hands. After three years in charge co-owner Loren Boothby has made what he describes as a tough decision to sell. He handed over the reins on Friday after a raucous and emotional thank you night on Thursday for the Kamo "family" he has gathered over the past three years. New co-owner Toby Steele says it will be business as usual. He says the current staff are staying on, including Boothby and head bartender/cocktail whiz Ben Sheward. Kamo is known as a friendly bar with a welcoming regular crowd who like to relax over a quiet drink and some food, or get up and belt out karaoke on Thursday and Saturday nights. On Sunday it will host Dykes on Mics, the popular night for women who love women, who love music.
