"Gaydar" radio host mourned in Otago

Otago's queer community is mourning the death of a much-loved local figure, who was killed in an horrific car crash. Oamaru man Scott William Ridley, 23, died in hospital from critical injuries he sustained in head on collision between his car and a truck north of Palmerston, Otago, in heavy fog yesterday morning. The truck driver, a man in his 60s, died at the scene. Ridley, a Waitaki District Council Communications and Policy Support Officer, was widely-known for the weekly show he hosted on Radio 1 "Gaydar". He was also studying at Otago University and was a solid rock of support in the university's queer community. "Scott's death has cut deeply through Dunedin, during his time with us he managed to touch so many of us," says UniQ Otago President Justin Boswell. UniQ has offered the services of its queer support coordinators for anyone who needs to talk.
