Out Takes 2011: A Reel Queer Film Festival is right around the corner, opening in Auckland on 26 May and Wellington on 2 June. The Out Takes crew has just finished selecting and scheduling 80 of the “newest, best and most exciting queer films available”. They are drip-feeding news of some of the films which will be in the line-up each week, before launching the full programme around 24 April. The first two films it has unveiled are Strapped, where “a handsome young prostitute learns about life and love during a sex-filled odyssey in an apartment building filled with strange inhabitants” and Leading Ladies, “a zany comedy about two sisters, their gay best friend, and their overzealous stage mum.” Anyone planning a winter break is being urged to consider Queen's Birthday Weekend in one of the major centres, so they can catch the last weekend of Out Takes 2011 in Auckland or the first weekend of the festival in Wellington. Out Takes faces rising costs associated with hiring and presenting the films that it brings to New Zealand for the festival. Reel Queer Incorporated is a registered charity and non-profit group which relies on the support of filmgoers, advertisers and other supporters to cover its costs each year. It would love help from people who can tell it where it can distribute programmes and posters to shops, cafes, libraries, community groups, and volunteers who can help with distributing programmes and posters and at screenings or events during the festival. It's also looking for advertisers in its printed programme, and supporters with cash or in-kind who will then feature on its show reel before each screening.
