Darren Hughes 1.45PM: Labour is backing its MP Darren Hughes who claims he has not done anything wrong, as police investigate allegations involving an incident with an 18-year-old man. The 32-year-old senior party whip has confirmed he is the senior MP at the centre of a police investigation into an alleged incident in an inner city suburb in the early hours of March 2. Labour Leader Phil Goff says information about the police complaint was leaked to the media from the Beehive. "Because the police inquiry is on-going I'm not about, and he's not about, to make any comment on the substances of the complaint or the process it followed. "I don't know if is politically motivated... that the information was leaked from the Beehive." In a statement this morning, Hughes says he is aware of the complaint and is cooperating fully with police, "I've done nothing wrong and I have full confidence that the legal processes will lead to the right outcome." Hughes has taken leave from Parliament.
