The founder of America’s Crystal Cathedral has distanced himself from a covenant that some have labelled anti-gay. Robert Schuller, whose world-famous Orange County church was designed by gay architect Philip Johnson, says he would never have approved the document, which choir members are strongly encouraged to sign. The covenant says: "I understand that Crystal Cathedral Ministries teaches that sexual intimacy is intended by God to only be within the bonds of marriage, between one man and one woman." Several choristers say they are upset by statements in the covenant and will refuse to sign it. Schuller retired in 2006 and his daughter, Sheila Schuller Coleman is now the senior pastor.
