It's all on for opening day!

Sat 12 Mar 2011 In: Events View at NDHA

The opening day of the Outgames couldn't be more action-packed. From Out In The Square to Sweatbox, get your skates on and get OUT cause there is an endless list of things to see and do!! 11AM place to be: Out In The Square Organisers are pretty excited that for the first time since Out In The Square moved to Civic Square, the annual gay and lesbian fair won't be hit by rain – or worse, rained off! While there is a bit of cloud around, that will clear this afternoon. Well done to the Welly weather goddesses for welcoming our overseas visitors with a bit of sun! Oh but you better slip, slop, slap (foreigners that means wear sunscreen and a t-shirt and hat because Kiwi UV rays are nasty thanks to the gaping hole in the ozone layer). 4.30PM: Opening ceremony. Meet at Civic Sq uare for the walk down to Te Papa for a formal and informal welcome to Wellington. Note – you need to register and grab your Snapper card for entry to Te Papa. 6PM: If you haven't seen Mates and Lovers yet, tonight is the closing night so get down to Downstage and check out the gorgeous stage portrayal of New Zealand's gay male history. If you have seen Mates and Lovers and fancy a night at the theatre, The Idea of America at BATS is a must-see – written and directed by rising gay talent Sam Shore you want to catch this one! It runs through till the 19th though so there is plenty of time. There is also the fantastic Drumdrag and Fairy Stories – you are spoilt for choice!! 8.30PM: Queen of the Whole Universe at the Opera House. You are unlikely to have ever seen a pageant like Queen of the Whole Universe. It's the queerest beauty pageant on earth and hilarious to boot. Come along and see who will wrestle the much sought after crown! Then head along to the official after party at S
