Vaughan, who has been a mainstay of the capital's gay bar and cafe scene for decades, says the inner city is "absolutely vibrant" as sportspeople, entertainers and human rights activists from all aound the Asia/Pacific region and some from further afield descend on the city. "It's going to be so good for Wellington," says Vaughan whose gay bar Sof of the Games. Meanwhile on the main route to the city through Victoria tunnel a large rainbow flag is proudly flying on a private home's tall flagpole, bidding welcome to the city's glbt visitors.
