Busy introduction to Manila for Mr Gay NZ

Thu 10 Mar 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Aaron Comis Mr Gay NZ Aaron Comis is acclimatising in Manila, ahead of his bid to strip the title of Mr Gay World from the competition. The 32-year-old spent his first evening in the city at a comedy show at the Polari Comedy Club, "for a spot of comedy, food, karaoke" and a chance to initially meet most of the candidates and some of the judges and organisers from the Mr Gay World organisation. Yesterday he managed to hit the gym and go for a swim, before a day of press conferences and public speaking. "We all had a chance to give our perspective on these issues in relation to our individual country," says Comis. He has also been fitted with a Barong, the national costume of the Philippines and says the entire experience has been enlightening to say the least. "I already feel like I have made so many friends and learned a lot about different countries, cultures and in particular where they sit in terms of gay rights. I look forward to another busy day tomorrow and learning as much if not more." Thursday brings a 4am start for the proud New Zealander, who has to attend a 6am photo shoot.   You can cast your vote for Aaron here
