Foster's Beer hits back at 'homophobia' claims

Wed 9 Mar 2011 In: International News View at NDHA

An Australian beer company has countered claims its new UK ad is homophobic. In Foster’s TV ad, a Brit gets the following Aussie reply on asking the rules for applying sunscreen to a mate: “Only put cream where he can’t reach. Between his shoulder blades, the safe zone... Remember, Deano, the following things are not permitted — eye contact, scented candles, power ballads, and do not apply if he’s wearing budgie smugglers.” Foster’s said it noted a minor negative response to the ad, but that promoting homophobia had no place in its business. “Humour has the power to unite, and occasionally to divide opinion... we sincerely hope that the vast majority of viewers will accept our best intentions to make a funny and well meaning commercial.”
