Colourful funeral will farewell colourful Yeti

Mon 7 Mar 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Mervyn (Yeti) Hills A funeral with a colourful difference will mark the death of colourful K'Road character Yeti - Mervyn Robbie Hills - who died on Friday evening. It’s set to be a high-camp affair with lots of surprises from some his oldest friends from his many decades on the gay scene and K' Road. Drag mother Miss K will be celebrant for the service which it is hoped will feature purple, Yeti's favourite colour. "Please wear a little something purple or take along some purple flowers," says long-time friend Jacquie Grant. The service will take place at All Saints Chapel, Purewa Cemetary, 100 St Johns Road in Meadowbank, Auckland, this Wednesday at 3pm. Anyone who can contribute a little koha towards the cost of Yeti's funeral will be doing his family a great favour, says a friend who advises that the after function will be held at Kamo in Karangahape Road from 5pm. On Thursday Yeti will travel with family to New Plymouth to be laid to rest in Waitara at a private family service.
