Newspapers data

For many years, the Papers Past website has digitised and made available online archival content from most of New Zealand's newspapers. Many of the newspaper owners have subsequently made material available under a Creative Commons license. In an ongoing effort to surface our Takatāpui Rainbow LGBTI+ heritage, PrideNZ has begun using Generative AI to summarise these newspaper articles. The detailed summaries can be downloaded below. Note the language in these summaries reflect the societal attitudes of the time in which they were written. License types can vary from newspaper-to-newspaper, with the applicable license noted in each csv file. And remember, Gen AI can make mistakes and so you should always refer back to the original source documents.
