Big Gay Out - it's a "family" day

Sat 28 Jan 2006 In: New Zealand Daily News

This year's sixth annual Big Gay Out event in Auckland looks set to be another great family day in both the gay "family" and literal sense. The AIDS Foundation, who organises the event, promises this year will be bigger and gayer than ever before, with a new line-up of performers and entertainers, and a wider range of food and retail outlets and community booths. Entertainment will include popular singer/songwriter Mahinarangi Tocker, Wellington's nationally acclaimed Drag Kings, and Splash Theatre, roving performance artists who'll mingle with the crowd to create on-the-spot theatre. Also on the bill is one of New Zealand's better known singing families The Morrisons, world-famous in Huntly and hytserical cabaret proponents. The Big Gay Out is now firmly established as a major attraction on Auckland's events calendar. As well as lgbt folk, the festival has become a popular attraction for heterosexual friends and family members, and political leaders.
